The Czech tennis hope has entered the Madrid tournament. She would certainly like to build on her successes from the past months and there is a lot to build on!
The Czech tennis hope has entered the Madrid tournament. She would certainly like to build on her successes from the past months and there is a lot to build on!
We are thinking in particular about winning the tournament in Chennai and reaching the eighth round of this year’s Australian Open. Many more experienced tennis players would be happy for such feats.
However, it belongs to the 17-year-old Czech. But she is looking for more, will she live to see it at the current tournament in the Spanish capital?
Today’s duel
Today in the early evening the native of Prague took on the American Katie Volynets. The match between the two young tennis players started with a marathon game.
The Czech lost her serve after eighteen balls, but even her opponent’s confirmation of the break and the 0-2 score did not mean any tragedy. Of the remaining seven games, she allowed the American a single one and rejoiced in winning the first set 6-3.
The Czech tennis player was able to rely much more on her first serve in the opening set compared to her opponent. This important criterion was equalised from the beginning of the second set and both tennis players held their serves. They performed many good and relatively long exchanges.
At 3-3, the Czech equalised thanks to a good use of the hawk’s eye, which she celebrated with a subsequent top-level serve. She also took a difficult game at 5-5 with ease and then struck on her own.
After a long exchange full of punchy shots, the American overdid it with the punch, Linda Fruhvirt took her serve and went on to serve for the match win. Moments later, she ended the match in style. An ace to cross.
After 6-3, 7-5 sets, the Czech advanced to the second round, where she will face tournament number 19 Jelena Ostapenko. She won only two games against her in Dubai two months ago. Also in the second round. Motivation for the rematch so soon is definitely not lacking for the 18-year-old Czech.
