Ligue 1 team performance: the situation at Lyon is not ideal, but the new coach Bosz was a great choice
Lyon lost their key striker when Memphis Depay headed to Barcelona. However, the attack should definitely not be the weakness of Peter Bosz’s team, it’s the defence that needs to be properly complemented. What are Olympique’s prospects?

The formerly very successful French side is still at the top in recent years, but it’s only good enough for the Europa League, as they kept up with the front runners for a long time last season, but in the end it was 4th place.
In terms of club value, Lyon (€325.50m) is in third place behind PSG (€917.65m) and AS Monaco (€388.70m).
Last season, Lyon was mainly driven by the great Depay, who was the second top scorer in Ligue 1 with 20 league goals.
Lyon was very active in the attacking direction last season, being the most frequent scoring team in Ligue 1. The players of the traditional French team sent 16.1 shots per game and kept the ball on their hooves 53.6% of the time.
After PSG (81 goals), Olympique then scored the most league goals for the season. So the question now is what the departure of the Dutch striker will do to the team.
His goals could be replaced by Moussa Dembélé, who has returned from a six-month loan spell at Atlético Madrid. He played 23 games (810 minutes) last season and scored just one single goal in the Stade Reims net.
Alternatively, Karl Toko Ekambi, who was a great performer last season, scored 14 goals and assisted 7 more in 39 games. however, the 28-year-old native of Paris was great in partnership with Depay and so the big question is how Lyon will fare now.
What the newly arrived Dutch coach can be happy about, however, is the midfield. The trio of talented footballers Houssem Aouar, Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimaraes will be a big force for Lyon once again, along with the others.
The experienced Anthony Lopes will continue to operate between the three poles and the edges of Lyon’s defence are also of quality. However, the biggest problem I see is in the centre of defence!
Already last season, the defence was a big weakness that caused them to miss the Champions League. Of course, Lyon played very offensively and that had to be reflected somewhere.
Only, Joachim Andersen definitely transferred to Crystal Palace for €17.5 million and only 33-year-old Damien Da Silva came to Lyon for free to complete the trio of Jason Denayer, Sinaly Diomandé and Marcelo.
Olympique are again betting heavily on their talents in particular, which Bosz, who has vast experience with young players, has pulled into the A-team. Of course, it is not yet certain who all will stay with the team, but it is the education that is top-notch in Lyon and traditionally produces great footballers.
But of course the transfers are far from over and a quality stopper would really give a lot to the team.
Tip for Ligue 1:: 3rd place
