At the end of April, the football clubs Sereď and Senica received a decision that they would not be granted a professional licence. The former did not even try to appeal, the latter did.
It is now certain that the appeal has come to nothing and Senica is saying goodbye to the top competition. The reasons for this are the failure to meet infrastructure requirements, overdue debts to other football clubs and their own employees, and the financial situation with regard to the future.
The problem, however, is that neither club will be able to play in the second league. Sereď has already issued a statement in which it clearly declares that the academy will not be affected.
Senica cannot put a statement on their website. The reason is simple, the site was shut down by the operator because the club did not pay the invoices for its operation for a long time.
The replacement for Senica is not yet officially known, but it should be MFK Skalica, the third team in the second league, which is competing for the licence, and will be led by the experienced Juraj Jarábek.
So far, Železiarne Podbrezová and Dukla Banská Bystrica have been promoted to the top league. However, financial problems occur quite often in the Slovak competition and it is questionable whether a team will face similar difficulties next season.
