Lewandowski is aging like wine! At 33, he’s close to surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s best year
Robert Lewandowski has long been one of the best strikers on the planet, but now he has such exceptional numbers that he is one of the biggest favourites to win the Ballon d’Or for the best footballer in the world. He is even close to surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s best year.

Most footballers experience the peak of their careers before the age of 30, but there are exceptions. Aritz Aduriz, for example, would be worth mentioning as he has scored the vast majority of his goals in a Bilbao jersey after the age of 30.
A similar example is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Now, however, Robert Lewandowski is captivating the football world. Like the Swedish star, he has been a great striker more or less since his time in the top five leagues. But his numbers are still going up.
There has not been a year in the last five years in which he has scored fewer than 46 goals. In 2017 he netted 53 goals, he finished 2018 with 46 goals to his credit, in 2019 he scored 54 times, last year he scored 47 goals and this year? He crossed the magical 60-goal mark for the first time.
He celebrated his 33rd birthday in August and now, as of November 17, 2021, he has 62 competitive goals in this calendar year. Bayern still have eight more competitive games to improve their numbers.
What is certain is that Lionel Messi’s best year in his career will not be surpassed, as the Argentine scored an incredible 91 goals in 2012. Cristiano Ronaldo’s best year, however, could be surpassed.
The Portuguese star experienced his peak in 2013 when he amassed 69 goals. The Polish sharpshooter is therefore only 8 goals short of surpassing the Manchester United striker.
It is then worth noting that Messi was 25 years old at the time of his best year, while Ronaldo was 28. This makes Lewandowski’s feat all the more incredible.
At what number will the Polish goal machine stop at the end of 2021?
