Lewandowski honours Messi! He is the best player of all time, deserves the Ballon d’Or, says Polish star

Robert Lewandowski undoubtedly deserved the Ballon d’Or last year, but he didn’t get it because the Ballon d’Or was cancelled. He was therefore in the running for it again this year, but perhaps in vain, as he himself is aware.

Few people would not wish the Polish sharpshooter the Ballon d’Or. He would have clearly deserved it for last year at least, but he could take solace in the Best FIFA Football Awards.

Last season, however, Robert Lewandowski not only built on his performances, he quite possibly surpassed them. In the Bundesliga alone, he scored a record 41 goals in 29 games. He scored goals across competitions, however, and he also scored for the national team.

The only question was whether he would show up at the Euros. However, the Polish national team once again fell short of expectations. As the saying goes, one player alone can do nothing, and Poland turned out accordingly.

Lewandowski, however, scored three goals in three games at the Euro, he couldn’t have done more. But since the beginning of the calendar year, Lionel Messi has also been shining, and is also in the running for a possible Ballon d’Or.

The Argentine legend has come alive after the election of Joan Laporta as Barcelona president, scoring goal after goal and collecting assists as well. In short, Messi started to enjoy football again.

And Messi has carried this over to the national team. With his performances at the Copa América, he became the best player of the tournament, was the top scorer, passer, and overall dominated ten offensive statistics, which for example were dominated by 8 different players at the Euro.

Moreover, Argentina won the championship and the odds on the winner of the Ballon d’Or changed in Messi’s favour.

Even Lewandowski is aware of this, and he honoured Messi with a beautiful statement.

“After what happened at the Copa América, I think it will be even harder for me to win the Ballon d’Or. But I won’t mind if the award goes to the best footballer of all time,” the Bayern Munich canon said in response to Messi.

It’s nice to see that respect still exists among footballers!
