Bayer Leverkusen have made a move for a left-back. It is Spanish youngster Fran García, who is currently playing for Rayo Vallecano. The price would be relatively low, but the problem is that the Real Madrid offspring still belongs to the royal club that owns the rights to him.

Fran García is an offspring of Real Madrid and the local academy La Fábrica. However, he didn’t make it into the ákép despite a lot of competition and scored a single start in the 2018/19 Copa del Rey.

Thus, in the summer of 2020 he went on loan to Raya Vallecano, a team from Madrid playing in the second league. There, he endeared himself, starting 41 games and with a record of 1+3, he helped them to promotion to La Liga.

So he went to Vallecas on transfer, but Real Madrid retained the player’s rights, which we’ll get to later.

García has guarded his place at left-back and has let virtually no one in. He works brilliantly with Alvaro García on the left flank and it is the left side of Raya that is the main danger.

the 23-year-old defender possesses immense speed and has been one of Raya’s best players for two seasons now. And with Real Madrid needing a left-back like salt, talk of his return has begun to abound.

A return to Real?

The media and the fans are pushing Real Madrid to buy back Fran, even the club’s management is reportedly convinced about his return, only the plan was to bring him back in the summer and not to touch the squad in the winter transfer window.

Only, Bayer Leverkusen threw a bit of a pitchfork into this Real plan. Xabi Alonso wants him immediately and would pay Ray Garcia’s buyout clause, which is €10 million, a very low price for a young quality player with a lot of potential.

But here we come to the problem that Leverkusen have to face. Real Madrid still own 50% of the player’s rights. They could buy their youngster for just €5 million, a sum that the Royal Club’s president Florentino Pérez carries around in his pocket.

The dream of the Spain youth international is to return to Real Madrid in the summer, only Xabi Alonso is going all out with Leverkusen. So all options are being considered at the moment.

But Real Madrid wouldn’t take any risks by buying him. €5 million is practically nothing for such a club, even if García doesn’t make it and goes elsewhere a few years later.

Now Los Blancos must make a decision. Take the player back now in the winter, let him leave for Leverkusen or believe the transfer won’t happen and go for Fran in the summer.

Another option is to agree a buy-back deal with Leverkusen, like they did last year with Iker Bravo or in 2013 with Dani Carvajal.
