Leverkusen have opened negotiations for the arrival of Coufal. However, the Czech back is not a priority for the German club
Vladimír Coufal has been a player of West Ham London for over two years. He had a great start to his career, but last season he got injured and lost his place and his form. The English team is probably not counting on him anymore, but Bayer Leverkusen is interested in him.

The Czech central defender has had a very interesting journey since the beginning of his career. He is now 30 years old, but five years ago few would have expected that Vladimír Coufal could make it to the Premier League.
However, when the former Prague Slavia player succeeded, he left a big impression. West Ham fans loved him. Especially in his first season, he was seen as one of the best signings in the club’s history, ranked among the top full-backs in the league.
He built on his performances in his second season, but unfortunately it didn’t last forever. Coufal got injured, missed some time and was unable to return to the form he had previously exuded. And the summer break didn’t help him either.
Coufal has been playing quite often this season, but he has no regular place in the starting lineup. On the contrary. And that’s why the question is what to do with him next. His contract runs until the summer, but there is an option for a two-year extension.
Will Coufal go to Germany?
Recently, there has been speculation about Bayer Leverkusen’s interest and it seems that this move might not be unrealistic for Coufal. He could complement compatriots Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick. Moreover, it is in defence where Leverkusen have had problems for a long time.
Sky Germany journalist Marlon Irlbacher revealed that the German side’s management has already travelled to London to start negotiations. But Coufal is not a priority for the club. The priority is the arrival of Robin Gosens.
But if both Gosens and Coufal can be acquired, Leverkusen’s management will certainly not grumble. However, Coufal would once again face interesting competition, as Bayer’s right side is defended by talented 21-year-old speedster Jeremie Frimpong, who may soon be paid handsomely.
