Leverkusen beat Bayern and move closer to the cup, Hložek comes on at the end

Bayer Leverkusen confirmed their form from the last few games and beat the favourite for the title, Bayern Munich, at home. Exequiel Palacios scored both goals for the home side, while Adam Hložek also got on the scoresheet late in the game.

The home team fell last time a month ago to Mainz, since then they have picked up their game again and except for the match with Freiburg they won all of them.

The away side are in a similar position, they also lost a month ago when they fell to Borussia Mönchengladbach, since then they have won everything and they also beat PSG.

The favourite of this duel was clear, Bayern is going for another title, although they had a strong Borussia Dortmund in their back. And it was the latter who now got ahead of the Bavarians.

Bayern took the lead in the 22nd minute through Joshua Kimmich, but Leverkusen turned it around from two penalty kicks that were safely converted by Exequiel Palacios.

Due to the close result, coach Xabi Alonso decided to make his first change on the pitch in the 84th minute when Czech striker Adam Hložek came on.

Alonso eventually substituted four players and even though there was a long extra time, Leverkusen held on to the lead and took an important three points in the fight for the cup.

They are currently eighth and are just three points behind sixth-placed Frankfurt. With this form, it is quite realistic that this goal will be met.
