The first team that can pack its bags, because it will certainly not advance to the eight finals, is Poland. After the loss to Austria, the whole team can slowly start planning their holidays. And the Austrians went into the game with the oldest line-up ever.

The3-1 loss to Austria and the subsequent goalless draw between the Netherlands and France in the evening made the cards clear. Poland will end up in last place in Group D and Tuesday’s game against France will not change that.

In the 66th minute, however, Christoph Baumgartner decided the fate of the match, and twelve minutes later Marko Arnautovic converted a penalty.

“Of course, every goal for the national team is nice, so I’m glad I scored. But I would certainly have been happier if the other Polish players had scored and given us the win,” Piatek, the equaliser scorer, told uefa.com.

“It’s hard to say after the game what exactly happened. We lost. There were better and worse moments in the match, but in the end Austria got all three points. Theopponent was better with the ball and surprised us with their aggressiveness in the beginning, we played better in the second half but it was not enough,” added the Basaksehir forward.

Coach Rangnick nominated the oldest Austrian starting line-up in the history of the Euro. It had an average age of 28 years and 217 days. It was also thanks to this that the Austrians ended a five-match winless streak. The last time they triumphed against Poland was in 1995.

“We slept for the first fifteen minutes. We walked, didn’t run at all and didn’t disturb the opponent’s quarterback. That’s also why we conceded the goal, it woke us up. We started to take more control and we looked good at the start of the second half,” said Piotr Zielinski.

But the Napoli midfielder can also slowly but surely pack his bags despite his best efforts. The last game against France will be all about honour. The Austrians will face the Netherlands for a place in the eight-finals.
