Less of my mother’s presence! Rune and his team try everything to restart the young Dane’s results
Danish tennis player Holger Rune was the comet of last year. But in the second half of the year, everything got stuck and the results of the former world number four stopped meeting expectations. How is the Dane doing this year and how does he justify the fact that his mother Anke has stopped appearing in tournaments?

Rune in 2024
Danish tennis hope Holger Rune rose to fourth place in the ATP rankings last year and was brimming with optimism. He made no secret of his goal to become world number one as soon as possible. However, the second half of the year brought poor results and this year the 20-year-old entered the tennis events with a vision to regain his lost positions.
A very promising start in Brisbane, where Rune lost to Dimitrov in the final, was replaced by stagnation. What’s more, Rune lost two members of his coaching team.
This week saw another interesting development. The tennis player’s mother Anke stopped appearing in his box at the tournament in Rotterdam. Let’s add that until then she was a regular and was also heard about because of her position as the player’s manager.
Her person was also the subject of interesting speculations justifying the unexpectedly early end of both coaches. In any case, Rune had to do without her direct participation in the tournament in the second largest Dutch city.
And it was not a sudden indisposition or a random phenomenon. The Dane openly admitted why this change happened.
Rune is a big boy now
First of all, it is certainly important for the player’s well-being that he and his mother are still in contact. They are in contact after every game and there doesn’t seem to be any problems between them.
But Rune can definitely handle some tournaments without his mother being there. “I think it is healthy if we are both at some and not at others,” the Danish tennis player describes the reasons for this year’s novelty.
It will be pointless to look for a system in his mother’s presence. Everything will be basically a matter of chance. But the first tournament in solo mode did not bring Rune any luck. In Rotterdam, he broke down in the second round when he failed to win a three-set duel with Kazakh Shevchenko.
In the end..
When things don’t go well, of course something has to change. And Rune is clearly not one to shy away from change. He deserves a thumbs up for his positive attitude. Even from losing the match against Shevchenko he managed to take something positive. At 20 years old, he’s definitely got something to build on.
