Leo Brichta has only had two fights in KSW, but during them he has conquered not only the organization itself, but also its fans. He made his debut in front of more than 50 thousand spectators in the so-called Warsaw Coliseum.
Then he defeated Maciej Kazieczek in an attractive split decision points battle. He made a big impression. He left the cage in tears. The beautiful fight was appreciated by all the fans in the stadium.
It was obvious that a big story was being written that day. The Polish organization was convinced of what a gem it had acquired in the person of the talented Czech fighter. So the second duel was a bit harder again.
Roman Szymanski, a former two-time title challenger who never became the king, took the cage against him. Still, it was a big name, one of the KSW icons. The result? Elimination. Leo Brichta stopped him in the third round.
The third fight awaits the former Octagon warrior on Saturday, February 17th. He can rewrite history at the KSW 91 gala in Liberec. Before that, however, he became the king without a title.
Leo Brichta is the king of KSW
Leo Brichta will face Valeriu Mircea on Saturday. It will be a fight for the interim lightweight title. If the former Oktagon star succeeds, it will be the first time a Czech will have a shot at the KSW title. Patrik Kincl and Petr Ondrus came close, but both lost their key fights.
Before the fight, however, the Czech puncher has a lot to be happy about. He became the king of the Polish organization without holding the title. In fact, he was placed in four polls organized by the organization and voted by the fans, and he dominated all of them.
Brichta was the most dominant in the poll for the best signing of 2023. He dominated this poll with 80% of the votes. He did slightly worse in the Fighter of the Year category (71%), where he had competition in the person of, for example, dominant champion Phil De Fries.
Subsequently, he also dominated the International Fighter of the Year category with 49%, leaving behind, for example, his rival Mirceu (27%) and two-time champion Salahdine Parnasse (15%).
To make matters worse, his battle with Szymanski won the Fight of the Year category with 43% of the vote.
“I would like to thank everyone very much for the votes. Never in my life would I have thought that in six months of work this was even possible. Thank you so much to the sponsors and coaches without whom this would not have been possible. I won’t lie. I’m really touched. I never dreamed this would happen. To dominate so many polls of the biggest European organization and to become the fighter of the year is an unimaginable achievement for me,” Leo Brichta said on Instagram.
