In his prime, Jermain Defoe was one of the best strikers in the Premier League, changing several clubs, but never playing for a top club with whom he could win the competition. Now, at 39, he has retired.

Another legend comes to an end. Jermain Defoe has announced on his social media that he is retiring from the club, while still wearing the jerseys of Scottish Rangers and Sunderland, who play in the third division this season.

He spent the vast majority of his career in the English Premier League, where he played 496 games and scored 162 goals. He is ninth in the historical table of top scorers in the English league.

Defoe played the most games for Tottenham (362 matches), West Ham (104 matches) and Sunderland (100 matches). It is at the latter club that he ends his career.

However, the English striker has also tried his hand at overseas MLS, where he spent one season with Toronto FC.

In his career he won only two trophies, in 2008 he won the League Cup with Tottenham, in 2021 he helped Rangers to the league title in Scotland. Although he hasn’t played much, he has scored double-digit goals.

He scored 20 goals in 57 games for the England national team and took part in one World Cup and one European Championship.

Defoe said that football will always be in his blood, he is proud of his career and looks forward to spending more time with friends and family. He concluded by thanking the fans of all the clubs he played for, his teammates, coaches and family.
