The entry into the Nations League was excellent. The Czechs won at home against Switzerland and then almost beat Spain, but thanks to a last-minute goal they held on for a draw.
However, the following matches were not as the coaching team expected. First a loss to Portugal, then to Spain and now another defeat to Portugal.
The Swiss have collected six points so far, which is why the Czechs have dropped to the relegation place. However, nothing is lost, only the team of coach Jaroslav Šilhavy must win in Switzerland.
“I guess it was clear that we were going to play for salvation, everyone wanted to cool their thirst on us, but we showed at the beginning that we are not only in numbers.
We will see what happens in the last game, but for the fans’ sake we would like to keep our position and bring the big national teams back to the Czech Republic in the next edition of the competition,” said Vladimír Coufal at the press conference.
But as they say, it’s better to go into a game with the need to win than to play for a draw. That is what the Czech footballers will stick to.
“We don’t speculate. Even if we had beaten the Portuguese, we probably wouldn’t have started with seven men in goal in Switzerland, because that can backfire with one last-minute standard and the whole thing will go down the drain. We’re going to play them fair on Tuesday night and see what happens,” he added.
