The American LCS is now in the summer playoffs or Championship. A phase that is both a title fight and a qualifier for Worlds.
While last week we watched the start of the last part of the LCS summer split, we have now been able to watch the first of several fixture series. Here, the lower seeded teams had a second chance to still contend against the teams that were not directly seeded and had to begin their journey in the corrected portion of the bracket.
One of such teams were the traditional participants of the league – TSM. They didn’t make it through their first series with Evil Geniuses (2-3) and had to go to a make-up series with the seventh team of the regular season – Dignitas.
Considering TSM’s performance so far, it was to be expected that the team would be a bigger favorite in the series. Dignitas did not look like they could realistically be among the best during the regular season. Still, the actual battle by positioning was between the neighbors from the regular season league.
But in the end, Dignitas showed a very determined performance and some improvement in all aspects of their game. TSM, who could have relied on a steady performance, suddenly started to lose. A series that slightly favored TSM eventually became a pitched battle for every millimeter of the map.
However, TSM was unable to fully build on their performance against Evil Geniuses, and after a 2-3 loss, the team bid a final farewell to the LCS. Starting next season, the organization is expected to play elsewhere. Where exactly the famous American powerhouse will continue, we will find out in time.
For Dignitas this result means a great success and imaginatively raises the chances for Worlds. Patience and grit can pay off for teams. Who knows, maybe they will become the fourth “joker” for the Worlds.
