Korea’s LCK is in its seventh week of play and we recap the games that took place over the weekend.

Out of all the games this week, there was one that stood out. The expected clash between the two best playing teams in the league. Teams that are crushing the competition and playing their own competition. GenG versus KT Rolster.

The hit of the regular season and the imaginary battle for the current best playing team in the competition ironically had no clear favorite. GenG went into this series as a team that had already beaten KT once and can play a very controlled, machine accurate game. KT, on the other hand, have been the team of ideas, innovation and more handsome play in the league so far.

On the surface, the battle has become a clash of two different styles and approaches to the game. In a Twitter poll, fans slightly favored the current LCK rulers, GenG.

Still, the series failed to live up to certain expectations that it would be a lit and fierce battle. KT Rolster exposed their opponent to a stop sign and a lesson in game control. Although the LCK champions tried to control better, KT also showed more efficiency. A relatively evenly matched game became a clear cut affair.

The second game of the series wasn’t the right nut for GenG either. The champion did manage to enter the game better but KT showed better control and punished the opponent’s poor positional play at key moments. GenG’s game then completely fell apart and KT cruised to a clean 2-0 win.

Thus, the result of the whole series was not only a win for KT Rolster but also a confirmation of its current qualities. With exaggeration, one can also agree with fans’ opinions that the KT Rolster era of 2018, when the team played excellent League of Legends, is returning.

The battle for the sixth spot is even. Nongshim and Sandbox notch important wins

Meanwhile, we’re slowly and surely untangling the situation regarding the sixth place that guarantees the last playoff spot. The matches between the teams in the second half of the table not only carry a lot of weight, but they also allow the situation to get even more complicated.

One such clash was between Nongshim RedForce and Kwandong Freecs. Kwandong had previously failed to win two series against their chasers (Liiv Sandbox and BRION) and instead of having a comfortable lead, the team will still struggle to advance.

For Nongshim, this series was also very crucial and could boost the eventual playoff shares. A dull-playing Kwandong could not eliminate some partial mistakes and Nongshim take the all-important 2-1 victory after a turnaround.

Sunday’s series between Liiv Sandbox and DRX was also a battle of neighbours in the table. The struggling Sandbox only vaguely resembled the team from the spring season, when they were assured of a playoff spot after week seven. DRX, on the other hand, were the team of the day and night, and their ambition and possible miraculous end to the season was certainly not to be underestimated.

DRX just picked a weaker moment and clearly dominated the battle of the struggling Sandbox team by a 2-0 margin. Thus, a delicate situation arose where four teams have a 4-10 record and there is a difference of one lost game in the series between each other. Specifically Kwandong have (-10), Sandbox (-11), BRION (-12) and Nongshim (-13).

The situation is not helped by BRION themselves as they managed to pick up a T1 win to add to the chaos. In addition, the final schedule plays into BRION’s hands in quotes, as they will be playing all of their direct playoff competitors (Liiv Sandbox, Nongshim, DRX) in addition to the series with GenG at the end.
