LCK: Six games, five losses. T1 didn’t make it through the series with BRION
Sunday’s series between T1 and BRION was supposed to be another test of a struggling favorite against a team that can play but can’t finish games.
Sunday’s series between T1 and BRION was supposed to be another test of a struggling favorite against a team that can play but can’t finish games.
Since Faker’s injury, the performance of the favored T1 has gone down steeply. The team hasn’t found its face yet, and the four superstars with rookie Poby are still floundering even in the basic aspects of the game. Ironically, Sunday’s series with BRION did not have a favourite on the outside.
BRION is one of the biggest underdogs in the LCK. The team can play well and responsibly even against the league favorites, it’s just that mistakes late in the game or the inability to finish games costs the team valuable games.
Against T1, the Brionians went with optimism as they were able to keep up with Dplus KIA and most recently Hanwha Life – the elite four teams.
T1 managed to lead for most of the first game and had a considerable lead in goals. However, the opponent came back with some good moments and turned the game in their favour.
The second game was more watchable for T1 fans, although it was not optimal either. BRION was brought down by individual mistakes and poor communication. The ten-time LCK champions thus evened the series and BRION fans again watched the same scenario as in the last series.
To everyone’s surprise, however, “The Power of Friendship” managed to keep their nerve this time and win the third game with a team performance. T1 did not show anything in the third game and it was crowned by mistakes of Poby or Gumayusi.
BRION thus notched a commanding 2-1 win and in the context of the last games of the regular season, they have a possible playoff berth in their hands. Although the 4-10 score puts the team in eighth place, the other three teams have the same.
In addition, BRION has three opponents and their competitors at the end, so they have a possible promotion to the playoffs in their hands. T1, on the other hand, have a 1-5 record since Faker’s injury and a current record of 7-7 (0).
