The War of the Telecoms, the most famous and oldest esports derby on the planet – known in esports as T1 vs KT Rolster, has played another chapter.
Korea’s LCK in League of Legends offered us a delectable menu during Saturday’s program, with the battle between GenG and Dplus KIA (Chovy vs. Showmaker) being the appetizer before this duel.
The famous battle between two of the strongest and most popular esports organizations in Korea always attracts a huge mass of fans, offering interesting storylines and great matches. And that’s in times when one or the other has failed.
The previous ten duels have been more or less dominated by the group around the league’s superstars led by Faker. In fact, KT’s last win dates back to 2021, when T1 grossly underestimated their maniacal opponent.
Yet Saturday’s match was to be much different. T1, who are still warming up, and had, like KT, three wins in a row, did not yet look so deadly.
Even though both teams had already played GenG and fallen in the same match, it certainly didn’t take away from the momentum. KT sensed a chance to finally, as they say, “stomp” their opponent into the ground.
KT played much more confident and organized from the start. It was obvious that T1 probably didn’t sleep well and bought considerable mistakes. Zeus’ performance in particular is a big warning, with the famous topper showing absolutely nothing against Kiina. T1 were simply a step behind and when some good action was taken, the opponent punished it royally.
The huge disappointment in the stands and on social media was made quite clear by T1 fans. They couldn’t change the fact that KT almost in a dry shirt downed their rival 2-0 and raised the question of who is playing the most stable game at the moment.
For KT, a big win will be celebrated today and the league will get a new boost. If KT can hold their ground, the second matchup with GenG in the second round of the regular season could be the matchup of the summer.
