On Wednesday, the esports world was hit with some surprising news. Faker has decided to take a break from the season due to long-term problems with his right hand. The news was relayed via T1’s official Twitter account.
We could see the right hand problems in previous series with Dplus KIA and Nongshim RedForce. Faker has been open about the problems during interviews. However, it seems that the T1 star will need more time to recover and rest.
Thus, until the legend’s return, young Poby, playing for a challenger T1 team, has accepted the role at midfield. The rookie, who was still playing in the T1 academy (third league) last year, made his big debut in the adult LoL in Wednesday’s series against DRX.
Unfortunately, not only Poby, but also Faker had to watch the disastrous collapse of his team behind the scenes. DRX are catching their breath after their woes so far. But it was not expected that T1 would take the hit.
However, given the way the series has been going, we can’t be surprised. Despite Poby’s sympathetic performance, his teammates and the huge stars of the Korean league and the world bought one mistake after another. In particular, the performances of Onero and Kerii are a big exclamation point.
T1 only managed to destroy four towers in the entire series, which they lost clearly 0-2. For a team with the league’s biggest stars, that’s woefully short, and it points to the problem probably having deeper roots.
The team did manage to outplay Dplus KIA (2-0) in their last few games. But then the team had its work cut out against Nongshim (2-1) to avoid a major surprise.
After the clear loss to DRX, a huge wave of criticism was unleashed. “If it wasn’t for Faker, T1 would be playing mediocre,” complained one fan, and no wonder. The team has clearly lost its rhythm. Given the next series with GenG, we can expect a very quick process.
