LCK: Before the regular season hit, a must-win. KT Rolster outplayed a lackluster Dplus KIA
The seventh game week started with another traditional duel between Dplus KIA and KT Roster. However, the clash of different motivations did not come as a surprise.
The seventh game week started with another traditional duel between Dplus KIA and KT Roster. However, the clash of different motivations did not come as a surprise.
Dplus KIA entered the series with KT as the underdog, despite rolling out a valuable victory over T1 (2-0). With KT’s current strength, the battle between the second and the third did not appear to be an even affair.
KT Rolster definitely wanted to make up for a dull performance against DRX, where the team had to save the series in literally one minute twelve. Dplus, on the other hand, wanted to try and surprise and escape the Hanwha Life/T1 pairing.
In the end, the series offered some interesting moments. On the Dplus side, we have to appreciate the effort of adapting to a new base and being proactive. It’s just that in the context of what KT came up with, their efforts soon fell very flat.
KT certainly didn’t show absolute tandem actions and great individual performances. However, their concentration and precise execution of the game plan was enough to take on an otherwise inconsistent opponent.
It was as if Saturday’s game against GenG was already on KT’s mind. This matchup, given the balance of power, will be the hit of the regular season and defacto a battle for the best team in Korea. Therefore, a 2-0 result seems like a kind of obligation on KT’s part to not exert themselves too much and focus on the big game.
Dplus KIA, however, may not be disappointed. Certain ideas have potential and it may help the team for the remaining games before the playoffs. We just hope there isn’t another explosion with BRION next time.
