Lazio are well on their way to the Champions League, albeit a little off their winning streak. Having won five of the last eight rounds, they have dropped to third in the Serie A table and have only a three-point lead over fifth-placed AC Milan.
Lecce have put themselves in the fight for salvation, having won only one of their last 11 games and even lost nine of them. They have dropped to 16th in the table, already just four points above the relegation zone.
Lazio’s key figures
The home side rely on Felipe Anderson, the Brazilian speedster has scored 12 goals and assisted nine. In attack he is helped by the discovery of the season Mattia Zaccagni, the skilful playmaker has scored ten times and assisted ten times.
Lecce’s key figures
The visitors are paced by the productive Gabriel Strefezza, the diminutive Brazilian winger striking nine times and assisting twice. Youngster Lorenzo Colombo is also putting in a sympathetic performance, with the Italian U21 international striker on a 5+2 record.
Betting tip
Although in recent years it has been mainly the attack with captain Ciro Immobile, this year Lazio have stood on solid defence. The 26 goals conceded is the second lowest number in Serie A after Napoli, and they have received more than one goal at home in only one of their last seven games.
That’s not at all befitting the opponent. Lecce’s big problem is productivity, with 28 goals the second worst after struggling Sampdoria Genoa. It has been waiting for a two-goal game for 11 games, while it has been completely goalless seven times in the meantime.
Considering Lazio’s solid defence, the factor of the home fans yearning for the return of the Champions League, and Lecce’s struggling attack, the Blues can be expected to confirm their role as favourites and win.
