The next series of matches at the European Championship is over and we already know a few of the players who will advance to the eight finals. The Czech Republic drew and still lead Group D ahead of England, the Hungarians surprised France and the Turks are without points. That’s all the twelve matches offered. Let’s recap them.

Group A

The Italians managed to win 3: 0 for the second time, this time it was the Swiss who took it. Coach Mancini’s charges have not won for 10 matches and lead the group with a score of 6::0. The big surprise was the Welsh, who managed to beat the Turks, thus complicating the path of the footballers from Asia Minor to the eighth finals. The Turks must beat Switzerland to have a chance.

Italy hold the top spot, followed by Wales, Switzerland and Turkey.

Group B

As in the “A” group, there is a clear leader. The Belgians had to turn around an unfavourable result against the Danes, but they did it to perfection. Kevin De Bruyne was the main figure, and he came on in the second half, but first passed for the equaliser and scored the winning goal himself. With a score of 5:1, Belgium, like Italy and Wales, is a sure eight-finalist.

In the second match, the Russians took the 3 points, deciding the match at the end of the first half with a goal from Miranchuk, beating Finland 1: 0. In the last match they will challenge Denmark and must win to be sure of qualification.

The situation in Group B before the last match is as follows: 1. Belgium, 2. Russia, 3. Finland, 4. Denmark.

Group C

In contrast to the first match, the Dutch handled their opponents with more composure. Against Austria, Denzel Dumfries was again fantastic, scoring the first two-goal goal of the European Championship.

In the match between Ukraine and North Macedonia, it looked like a clear win for the Ukrainians after the first half. However, after the contact goal, scored by Ezgjan Alioski after a penalty missed by him, the Macedonians picked up a lot. When Malinovskyi missed a penalty for Ukraine in the 84th minute, the situation became even more confused. Nevertheless, the Ukrainians maintained their lead and are in contention for the eight-finals.

The group table is 1st Netherlands, 2nd Ukraine, 3rd Austria and 4th North Macedonia.

Group D

Probably few would have expected that even after two games played, Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges would be in first place. A draw with Croatia, arranged by Patrik Schick and Ivan Perisic, gave England a great chance to take the top spot, but they also only managed a point.

A goalless draw with Scotland means that after two matches, the Czech Republic is 1st, England 2nd, Croatia 3rd and Scotland 4th.

Group E

Interestingly, this group is the only one in which points are shared in the standings. 4 points and the lead is currently held by Sweden, who beat the Slovaks. It is our eastern neighbours who hold the second position, while in the second half of the table are the Spaniards and the Poles.

Spain in particular is on the brink of promotion after two draws and under fire from critics. In Seville, there were boos from the fans after both matches. Coach Enrique’s charges will have to beat Slovakia to secure promotion.

For now, the Swedes are 1st, the Slovaks 2nd, the Spanish 3rd and the Poles 4th.

Group F

The biggest surprise was definitely the Hungarian draw with the French. In Budapest, the home team were again driven by a completely full stadium and despite pressure from the current world champions, they managed to defend the lead for quite some time and then draw until the end. The team around Peter Gulacsi will travel to Germany with hopes of advancing.

The second game offered the most goals in the match so far. The Germans turned the tide from 0-1 thanks to two own goals from the Portuguese and then finished off Portugal with two more goals after half-time. Jota reduced it to 2::4, but the subsequent pressure did not lead to anything.

After two matches the table is that France is 1st, Germany 2nd, Portugal 3rd and Hungary 4th.

Meanwhile, the third place teams in the table would be Portugal, Austria, Finland and Spain.
