Slavia had a tough fight to reach the final round of the European Conference League, but eventually eliminated Panathinaikos after 2:0 and 1:1 results. In the rematch, however, the game was made much more difficult by the fans who shone lasers in the eyes of the players. What did coach Trpišovský say?

The Slavs knew that nothing easy awaited them on the hot Greek soil. This was confirmed from the first minutes, when the home team could have taken the lead and made the match quite uncomfortable for the Susians.

The Prague team did not keep up and one attack after another came at them. Thanks to Aleš Mandous, however, the half-time score was 0:0 and then Slavia’s performance improved.

However, something happened in the match that is totally unacceptable. A few fans of the Greek team dazzled the Slavia players with green lasers in their eyes. What did coach Jindřich Trpišovský say about this?

“We knew about it. First of all, it was already happening during the warm-up and secondly, we saw it on the broadcasts from last season. We were preparing for it, even though there is no way to prepare for it. I guess the players have to say how uncomfortable it is for them.

But we talked to them after the warm-up and they said it’s very uncomfortable to have a harsh light shining directly into your eyes. The only chance was to move quickly, not look in one place for a long time, change the direction you’re looking.

That was about the only flaw, otherwise great setting and atmosphere, amazing scenery. That’s the only blemish, but for me there’s probably nothing I can do about it,” he said at the press conference.

Despite this inappropriate and dangerous behaviour, Slavia will advance to the last round where they will face Polish side Raków. Given the distance, the support of the Susi fans is expected to be strong even in an away game.
