Lionel Messi has not been a Barcelona player for two years, but he still receives money from the Catalan club. In an interview with La Vanguardia, Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted this.

He chose PSG as his next destination, a move he later regretted. In Paris, he became very unpopular with the fans, was often booed and even heard curses and chants against his name.

There was talk of a possible return to Barcelona, but Lionel Messi chose to leave for the MLS, where he will finish his career at Inter Miami.

Despite not choosing to return to the Catalan capital, he will continue to receive a salary from Barcelona. In an interview with La Vaguardia newspaper, the club’s president Joan Laporta said this.

“We will pay Leo Messi until 2025. It was an agreement he made with the previous management that his salary would be deferred,” Laporta said.

“At the moment it counts against our salary cap,” the Barcelona president added. The Blaugranas continue to struggle with financial problems and registering new players. They brought in Ilkay Gündogan and Iñigo Martínez for free at the end of their contracts, but he has not yet been able to be officially introduced for that reason.

“We have offers for Pedri, Gavi, Christensen, Balde, ter Stegen, Ansu, Raphinha… But we are not a selling club. We have no intention of selling our stars,” Laporta is convinced.
