The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the defending champions Denver 106-108. The Nuggets dominated the series 4-1 and will face an ambitious team from Minnesota in the next round of the playoffs.
The Los Angeles team did not break the unfavourable record in the 5th game of this series in Denver and lost for the 8th time in a row. The losing streak on the Nuggets’ floor continues for more than 2 years. In this very balanced duel, which resembled in many ways the second game of this series, the Denver team was again more successful, controlling the game with a minimum point margin.
The best players of the game were Nikola Jokic and Lebron James, both of them just missed the prized triple-double. On the home side, Jokic scored 25 points and, just like in the last game, Anthony Davis broke the 20 rebound mark and added 9 assists. Jamal Murray was Denver’s top scorer with 32 points, while Michael Porter Jr. added 26 points.
The Lakers were led this time by the ageless James with 30 points. He topped his performance with 11 assists and 4 steals. He then missed a triple-double by a single rebound. Anthony Davis was held to 17 points but added 15 rebounds. In addition, the Lakers entire starting five played very well, with every player scoring at least 14 points.
The Los Angeles team showed a fierce performance in this game as well, but this time they did not win the opening passage of the game, but they built a slight lead by halftime. But Denver turned the game in its favor during the third quarter and did not let the lead go in the last passage of the game.
The Lakers are thus parting ways in this year’s playoffs after 5 games played and just like last season, they fell out with Denver. But this time they got at least one more win. The Nuggets continue to chase the title defense, where they will face a much tougher challenge in the next round in the form of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fans can look forward to the Jokic vs Edwards matchup. The seasoned scout, who has already been voted the Most Valuable Player of the season twice and is a hot candidate to win this award this season, against the predatory youth.
Anyway, we will do without other stars in this year’s playoffs. After the Phoenix debacle, we won’t see Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal anymore. With the elimination of the Lakers, fans will no longer see the all-time leading scorer Lebron James and Anthony Davis.
