Lajos Klein showed an incredible fighter’s heart and won at UFC 272 with a broken toe
Slovakian fighter Lajos Klein won a valuable victory at the UFC 272 gala over the weekend, which will probably guarantee him a new contract in the biggest MMA organization in the world. He showed the heart of a fighter in the fight, winning even with a broken toe.
Lajos Klein scored a valuable victory at UFC 272
Another numbered UFC 272 tournament took place over the weekend, where the first Slovakian fighter in the UFC, Lajoš “Mr. Highlight” Klein, fought for his next chance. After three fights he had an unflattering record of one win and two losses. And the clouds were closing in on the fighter from Nové Zámky.
But Klein pleased his employer when he gave the nod to his fourth fight on “short notice” and took the bout with American Devonte Smith, which he accepted eight days before.
But the Slovakian matador had an unpleasant dilemma to solve before the fight. In fact, he suffered a nasty injury in one of his training sessions and Klein was thinking of pulling out of the duel. In the end, fate stepped in and played out an amazing story with a great ending for the Slovakian fighter.
Even with a broken toe, he got the nod to fight
“We knew that I would be in a tournament in March, but I was surprised that it was in the first week,” Lajos Klein reacted to the announcement of the fight in Ondrej Novotny’s MMA Flight Around the World podcast. “I was ready, so I said ‘OK , let’s do it’,” he didn’t hesitate for a moment to seize his opportunity.
But then something happened that he didn’t expect. “As soon as we confirmed the match, this thing happened, I broke my toe in training,” the wrestler said of the unpleasant injury. “It was a very unpleasant injury, I had a hard time even stepping on the foot,” he described the unfortunate incident.
As he was entering the match after two losses, the pressure on him was of course enormous. “I had mixed feelings. It was a game where everything was at stake,” Klein described his feelings. “I thought about cancelling the fight, but after talking to my international manager, I learned that if I cancelled it, I could forget about the UFC and that I was done there,” he confirmed that thoughts of cancelling the fight were catching up with him.
As we now know, everything worked out for the best and Lajos Klein won after a three round battle, gaining the favour of Dana White with his courageous decision. We hope that the Slovakian fighter will get a new contract and a chance to prove that he definitely belongs in the top league of the world.
