La Liga team introductions: Real Madrid waiting for Mbappé, Ancelotti wants to take back the title

Real Madrid didn’t win any trophies last season, something that hasn’t happened for decades. The royal club wants to forget the bad season immediately, but it is still waiting for its star to save the White Ballet.

At first glance, the squad looks to have weakened rather than strengthened. The departures of long-time mainstays Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane have shaken up the team, leaving Carlo Ancelotti to build a brand new stopper duo.

This will most likely be the Alaba-Militao duo. The Austrian all-rounder came from Bayern Munich for free, and he showed great form in the preliminary match against AC Milan. The young Eder Militao has already shown last season that he has the qualities to be a Real Madrid stopper and gradually become the leader of the defensive line. Backing these two will be the experienced and very reliable heartthrob Nacho.

The edges of the defence are almost clear, however, as long as both are healthy. Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy are still nursing injuries, so they won’t be ready for the start of La Liga. Their places will be taken by Lucas Vázquez and captain Marcelo, or youngster Guttiérez.

The centre of midfield is absolutely the strongest part of the team. The trio of CKM, i.e. Casemiro, Kroos, Modric is still one of the best in the world and it is thanks to these three midfielders that Real Madrid have conquered the Champions League three times in a row. Fede Valverde, Martin Ødegaard and Isco will be waiting for their chance.

In attack, Karim Benzema has no competition. The number one at the tip of the attack should drag Los Blancos with his goals again this season, with Eden Hazard, Vinícius, Marco Asensio, Rodrygo and Gareth Bale complementing him from the wings.

However, we are still waiting for the biggest star. According to behind-the-scenes reports, Kylian Mbappé is eager to play for Real Madrid and be the star of the team. He probably won’t be able to do that at PSG, because after Messi’s arrival he would be the third man in the pecking order behind Messi and Neymar.

Real Madrid will try to buy Mbappé already this summer for about 150 million euros, or he would come for free next year after his contract ends.

The biggest rival Barcelona has weakened considerably, moreover, after the departure of the legend Messi the club is drowning in huge financial problems, therefore it may have big troubles in the league as well. Atlético will want to defend their title, but Real Madrid will not want to let their city rivals take the league for the second year in a row. Either way, La Liga could be very interesting this year.
