Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid? No problem, the money is there!
As of last night, Real Madrid’s bid for football superstar Kylian Mbappe has come to light. His price tag has risen to 160 million euros. PSG are now in a tricky situation. Accept money this high already or let him go for free next summer? That’s like a question of to be or not to be, as both have their pros and cons.
Regardless, Florentino Perez has made many mistakes during his time in charge of Real Madrid. He has always saved it in the end with a great transfer policy or even better economics for the club. Yes, admittedly he let Cristiano Ronaldo or Iker Casillas leave without any parting black dot at the end. Despite all this, it is he who has made the second decade shine brightly.
The current boss of the White Ballet came to the club in 2000. Immediately the football mania around huge transfers began. Rather a period when many expensive reinforcements arrived that admittedly had a name. But they didn’t really confirm their form.
Exactly between 2000 and 2003, around four world-class reinforcements arrived at the club. We’re talking about Figo, Ronaldo, Zidane and David Beckham. It was the last mentioned that confirmed the exact idea of Galacticos. To buy a player who, at the time, was not brimming with form. But his name was known all over the world.
That’s one of the reasons why the Spanish billionaire ended up as president back in 2006. And also the discovery that the team didn’t win a single trophy during his tenure. One of the few things that has always been held up to him as a key mistake.
Upon his return to the top job after three years in 2009, there was a change that we know to this day and it still works. Not making Real Madrid a brand, an overpaid team of superstars that don’t go together at all.
The last decade in football history has passed and we all know who spun the show. Young lads to start with, who only improved their footballing potential when they moved to Spain.
This is exactly how we imagine the functioning of a mancafta that has always managed to get very good coaches like Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti or Zinedine Zidane. And then made players like Luka Modric or Karim Benzema into the players we know today.
The old generation, however, always needs renewal. That’s where new solutions come in to create the next legened club. One of the cornerstones is to be Kylian Mbappe. A boy as fast as a soapy lightning bolt. With absolutely perfect ball possession. A footballer who’s been around for a long time and who’s proved his ability match after match.
It’s no wonder then that there’s interest in his trait par excellence. Galacticos are looking for a team leader, a goalscorer and a replacement for the long lost Cristiano Ronaldo for three years. The offer is made. The French speedster has made no secret of his desire to move. In Spain, they will welcome the star. So it’s up to Paris. But the most sensible thing to do is to let the player go.
But explain this to the sheiks who subsidise a team as big as PSG. They want to win the Champions League as much as a La Liga team. That’s why they were happy to turn down the first offer. It’s going to be a great triad. However, to say that KM10 will not go to Spain as a player. That’s already a bit of a crazy idea.
You also need to understand where the money is coming from to make such a big purchase despite all that huge money being put into rebuilding the Santiago Bernabeau stadium.
Florentino Perez is not a rainmaker, though. But he is aware of when to sell players. He will take advantage of the situation to acquire the dream commodity, by selling players who can be replaced in some way. Perhaps think of the money he made selling Achraf Hakimi to Inter Milan last year, or Raphael Varane along with Martin Odegaard to the world-famous Premier League.
It’s easy to write. But it is even harder to find a tasteful replacement for such a decision afterwards. It takes courage to take such a risk. And it’s not even clear if it’s all going to work out in the end. For the three departures mentioned, Real Madrid collected 146 million euros!
That’s not counting the other mega transfers of Sergio Reguillon to Tottenham or Mateo Kovacic to Chelsea. Thanks to this, we are on the other tens of millions that go to buy players of the type of Kylian mentioned.
Plus if nothing works out this summer. Next year it will be even sharper and the number of three unreal footballers could come for free. How about Paul Pogba or Eduardo Camavinga in midfield? And will the French top ten bask in the attack?
“No problem. The finances are.” comes from the Real Madrid office.
In that case, let’s get the popcorn. A great movie starts with a story we don’t want to reveal just yet. For now, we’re sure that if things don’t go well this year. It’ll be even better next year.
