Petra Kvitova fought until the end, but still fell short against Jelena Ostapenko. She lost to the Latvian in a three-set battle, and the overall winner had to be decided by a tie-break in the deciding set.
Petra Kvitova did not start the match ideally, as she was quickly losing 1: 4. However, she didn’t wrap up the first set and eventually went on to win 7::5 and take a 1::0 lead in sets.
In the second set, Kvitova continued her good performance, which she could even crown with a victory, which she was very close to.
In the second set she was already leading 5: 3, but unfortunately she did not finish the match. Moreover, Ostapenko showed a fantastic turnaround and won the second set 7::5.
Kvitova was able to finish the match in the deciding set, but she was unable to convert any match points. The dramatic duel had to be decided by a tie-break, which was also extremely dramatic, just like the rest of the match.
Ostapenko failed to convert three match points and even offered one to her opponent. Kvitova, however, did not take advantage of this unique chance and Ostapenko ended the match soon after.
The Latvian tennis player finally reached the semi-finals. Despite that, Kvitova doesn’t have to be ashamed of her performance in Dubai, she left a great impression thanks to her performance.
