Petra Kvitova continues to walk through the tournament in Madrid without losing a single set. This time she took care of the German Kerber, whom she eliminated in 83 minutes.
In the first round of the Madrid tournament, Petra Kvitova met her compatriot Maria Bouzkova. However, she got injured in the second set and the match had to end after seventy minutes.
Now the twelfth player in the WTA rankings and two-time Wimbledon winner will face the German Kerber. The Czech tennis player was the more active player from the opening seconds of the duel.
However, it was Kvitova who lost her serve first. However, she showed mental resilience and immediately deprived the German of the break advantage. At 5:4, Kvitova took advantage of a second set point and deservedly won the opening set.
In the second set, the thirty-one-year-old native of Bílovec almost stopped making unforced errors. At 6:5, Kvitova reached the match points and managed to take advantage of the third one. The players spent 83 minutes on the clay court.
“I didn’t have to prepare extra for the match. I’ve known Angie for a long time, we’ve played a lot of matches together,” said Kvitova about the 14th duel.
The Czech will play the better of Kudermetova vs. Bertens in the eighth round. In both cases she will be a slight paper favourite.
Tennis fans can also look forward to Karolina Pliskova and Karolina Muchova at the Mutua Madrid Open. They will take to the court during Sunday.
