Petra Kvitova did not disappoint! She defeated Jasmine Paolini in the second round of the French Open and will join her compatriots Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the third round.
At least three tennis players from the Czech Republic will play in the third round of Roland Garros! Petra Kvitová will also join Barbora Krejčíková and Katerina Siniakova, who have already qualified on Wednesday.
Kvitova is the seventh seeded player in the tournament and was facing Jasmine Paolini, who is 94th in the WTA rankings. Kvitova’s opponent has never got past the first round in France in the past, so this year’s 2nd round is a success for her.
The former world number two was therefore the clear favourite in the match and confirmed her role. Kvitova took both sets by 6:3 and needed almost an hour and a half to advance.
However, it should be noted that Kvitova made quite a few unforced errors. However, she compensates for that with 32 winning balls. But she certainly can’t be satisfied with her first serve success rate (55%) and the number of missed break points (6 out of 20).
But advancing definitely counts! In the next round she will face the winner of Hercog vs. Fernandez. Whoever advances, Kvitova will be the favourite against both of them. We can only hope she lives up to it.
