It was looking like Watford would suffer a defeat to another Merseyside side after last week’s debacle with Liverpool. However, against Everton, the Hornets showed a great turnaround and eventually got 3 points, with Juraj Kucka playing a big part.

Since his summer arrival, Juraj Kucka has won over many fans with his good performances in Watford’s midfield. Moreover, given his drive on goal, it was only a matter of time before he started to make his mark.

He chose the perfect moment to score his debut goal. His team at Goodison Park put in a sympathetic performance, at times outplaying the home side. Yet it was Everton who still led 2-1 in the 77th minute.

Claudio Ranieri’s charges, for whom this was his second game in charge of the Hornets, desperately needed some momentum. And the Slovakian midfielder did just that when he made a great run on a corner from Cucho Hernández in the 78th minute and beat Pickford with a header.

“When Kucka scored, I knew this game was ours,” Josh King, who scored a hat-trick, said after the game.

It was King who made the turnaround to 3:2 just 88 seconds after Kucka’s goal. He completed the hat trick with 4 minutes to go, and Emmanuel Dennis added the final nail in the coffin in regulation.

Watford were able to celebrate a historic victory. For the first time ever, they won at Goodison Park. They also became the first team in Premier League history to win a game by 3 goals, despite still being behind in the 75th minute.

“It’s a great feeling, of course. I’m happy for my first goal, but I’m much more happy for the team’s performance,” he said in the post-match interview.

“We played as a team, we have to play every game with such determination and passion. We still have a long way to go, but we are all excited to see what our group can do.”

Kucka and his teammates will have the chance to build on their fine performance next weekend when they welcome Southampton to Vicarage Road.
