Kucherov the week’s biggest star
Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay scored the most points last week. In three games played, he amassed nine points on four goals and five assists. The Russian scoring leader will take part in the NHL All-Star Game this weekend for the fifth time in his career.
He shined the most in this reporting period in the game against the Philadelphia Flyers, when he recorded the 5th hat-trick of his overseas career and notched the 25th four-point performance of his career.
In addition, in the following game against New Jersey, he recorded his 13th three-point game of the current season. The Russian has been leading the league in scoring for virtually the entire season and has been putting on an impressive scoring display over the past two weeks along with Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche.
Their duel has gained such momentum that they already have a considerable lead on the third man in the standings , David Pastrnak. And the trophy for the winner of the current season’s Canadian scoring is probably narrowed down to the aforementioned Russian and Canadian.
Another award winner Connor McDavid
The second biggest star of the week is Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid. He recorded eight points in three games for 4 goals and 4 assists in the period under review. He is a big part of Edmonton’s 16-game winning streak.
Of course, McDavid will also play in the All-Star game, where he will be one of the four captains. In addition, he scored his 36th career four-point performance this week and is clearly the best player among active hockey players in that regard.
Currently, McDavid is not as high in scoring as he used to be over the past seven seasons. He is currently only in fifth place with 67 points, already well behind the leading duo. So, we can’t expect a 150 point explosion from him this season like last season. However, the Edmonton captain is eager to finally succeed in the playoffs.
Third star of the week Matthew Tkachuk
The last man to be honored is Florida forward Matthew Tkachuk. He had the same point total as McDavid, he just needed to play one more game.
He scored in every game and also notched his fourth three-point performance this season. With Sam Reinhart, Tkachuk is the clear driving force for Florida and the court passer for Reinhart.
