Kucherov finishes the regular season in the hunt for a productive win
In the Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (4:7), the leader in points Nikita Kucherov scored 3 more points. He contributed one goal and two assists to his team’s victory. Captain Steven Stamkos also scored a goal.
Kucherov, who broke Tampa Bay’s own scoring record of 128 points for the season in the last game, increased his point total to 133 points on 43 goals and 90 assists. He confirmed his position as the second best passer this season behind Connor McDavid, who had 7 more assists.
And at the moment, he has a three-point lead over second-place Nathan MacKinnon and is already seven points behind third-place McDavid, so he is within reach of his second win in the scoring competition. The first time he enjoyed the overall championship was in the 2018/19 season, when he scored 128 points.
Brad Marchand breaks the 400-goal mark in the regular season
In the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Boston Bruins (1:4), Bruins captain Brad Marchand ended a 10-match goal drought and scored his 400th NHL goal, becoming only the fifth player in franchise history to reach the milestone.
Johnny Bucyk leads the club’s historical statistics with 545 goals, followed by Phil Esposito (459), Patrice Bergeron (427) and Rick Middleton (402). Marchand, who has also surpassed the 1,000-game mark this season, currently has a record of 1,024 games in which he has scored 927 points.
Pastrnak 3 goals away from the 50-goal mark for the season
Czech canon David Pastrňák also contributed two points to the Bruins’ victory, registering a goal and an assist, and the fifth man in scoring this season has already improved to 106 points on 47 goals and 59 assists. He is seven points away from equaling his previous high, which was set last year.
He is also just 3 shots away from breaking the 50 hits in a season mark for the second time in his career. If he can reach that mark by the end of the regular season, he will record two consecutive seasons with at least 100 points and 50 goals in a season. Not even Jaromir Jagr has accomplished that feat.
