Lukáš Krpálek followed up his fantastic performance from the Rio Olympics in Tokyo and again won… a medal! His success is even more valuable because he achieved it in a higher weight category.

Lukáš Krpálek is the most successful judoka in our history and he has now consolidated this position. He won his second Olympic medal. The first one he won five years ago in Rio, however in the weight category under 100 kilograms.

Now in Japan, he fought in the royal category over 100 kilograms and did fantastic.

He took on a member of the refugee Olympic team in the eighth round. Javad Mahjoub subsequently hailed him as a hero and wished him all the best. It was the third time he had faced Krpálek in his career.

Krpalek defeated Uzbek Bekmurod Oltiboev in the quarterfinals. He then faced home fighter Hisayoshi Harasawa and it was a close fight that lasted almost eight minutes. Krpálek won it only in the so-called golden score on the wazari.

The Jihlava native then faced Georgian judoka Gurama Tushishvili for the gold. He has already faced him twice in the past at the European Championships and lost both times.

So he did not go into the match with positive experience and for a long time it seemed to affect him. Tusishvili was more active for most of the match, Krpálek also received two yellow cards for passivity.

But with thirteen seconds to go, he managed to end the match, tactically outplayed his opponent and deservedly became the Olympic champion again after five years!
