Kris Letang recorded his 543rd career assist and 700th career point in the Carolina Hurricanes – Pittsburgh Penguins (4:2) game. But he is still short of Ray Bourque, who reached 1,506 points in Boston.

Letang became the 29th defenseman in NHL history to surpass that mark. It took him 1,021 games to do it, which is a testament to his qualities with 157 goals and 543 assists. He clearly dominates all historical club statistics among Penguins defensemen.

The Canadian hockey player came to Pittsburgh in the 2007/08 season and has been loyal to the Penguins for his entire career so far. Together with captain Sidney Crosby and Russian hockey player Evgeni Malkin, who have also linked their careers with Pittsburgh, they have formed a solid core in recent seasons.

Letang reached that milestone at 49:16, when he contributed a pass on a goal scored by Crosby. It was his second goal of the game, tying the game score at 2: 2.

However, at the end of the last period, Seth Jarvis struck twice to set the score at 4:2. This, of course, made Letang’s jubilee bitter. What is impressive is that he is only the 10th defenseman in NHL history to score 700 points in a single team’s jersey.

Extending multiple point streaks

Crosby scored in his 11th game in a row and boasts 16 points on 8 goals and 8 assists. Defenseman Erik Karlsson, on the other hand, extended his point streak to 8 games with 13 points on 4 goals and 9 assists. And let’s mention Jake Guentzel, who scored in his 7th straight game and has 11 points on 7 goals and 4 assists.

Crosby is the 26th all-time leading scorer

With his two goals, Crosby has already reached the 562 mark. This breaks away from Montreal legend Guy Lafleur and also leapfrogs another person by one goal. That’s Mike Modano, who scored 561 goals. And just 4 goals are enough to jump him up another 3 steps in the rankings.
