In 2021, the British media came up with the information that the owner of AC Sparta Praha, Daniel Křetínský, would buy a share of the London club West Ham. This season, despite a big summer spend on transfers, the latter has not followed up on the excellent performances of last year.
His players are struggling to stay in the top English football competition and are just one point away from the relegation zone in the Premier League table. Moreover, the players are consumed by a tough schedule compared to the teams around the relegation zone, as they are still fighting in the knockout stage of the European Conference League.
Křetínský reportedly paid around 5 billion Czech crowns two years ago, which meant ownership of 27 percent of the club.
“The fan base is one of the reasons why I wanted to be part of the club and West Ham’s supporters are among the most passionate in the world,” he said at the time, according to Britain’s Football Insider.
The same server came up with the information that Kretinsky wants to buy another share in the club after the late owner David Gold. He died in early January at the age of 86.
Gold owned shares worth 25 percent of the club, which would mean that Křetínský would become the majority owner of the club.
He is expected to pay around CZK 4 billion for the quarter of the club. In total, he would hold 52 percent of the club. He would thus become the shareholder with the largest stake in West Ham ahead of the next owner, David Sullivan, who owns less than 40 per cent of the shares.
