The second grand slam of the tennis season is coming to an end in Paris. And there is still a strong Czech footprint at Roland Garros. After Barbora Krejcikova advanced to the singles final on Thursday, she battled alongside Kateřina Siniaková in the doubles final a day later.

And right from the start, the Czech pair took a break to take the lead. The Czechs played aggressively against the Polish-American duo of Linett/Pera, and the first games saw the players in a shootout on the baseline. In 13 minutes, Krejcikova and Siniakova led 2: 1.

And 16 minutes later, the 2018 Roland Garros winners were already grinding their teeth to take the first set. And when they took the serve from American Pera at 5:1, they were already halfway to the title match. Barbora Krejcikova clearly dominated the first set.

The first game of the second set was a long tug of war and the Czech pair even had to fight off a break point. The Czechs then even broke back to 2:0, but then completely collapsed when Siniakova’s serve was taken by the Polish-American pair with a clean game. Linett, however, was equally successful with her serve and again it was down to two.

On the return, both pairs combined for a total of 14 fifties in the end, when an error by Krejcikova broke the streak at 2::3 from the perspective of Linett and Pera. And moments later, the series of breaks was also interrupted. Siniakova managed to manage her serve with some very good shots and in one hour and 7 minutes the Czechs were within striking distance of the final.

Linett went on serve at 5::2 for Krejcikova and Siniakova. And the Czechs landed the match point on a silver platter. And mistakes by the Polish tennis player also decided the match. In an hour and 11 minutes it was done and a repeat of the 2018 final became a very quick reality.

Barbara and Kateryna’s opponents will be the winning pair from the second semi-final, where another Polish-American pair, Swiatek/Mattek-Sands, will meet the Romanian-Argentine pair Begu/Podoroska. The final will be played on Sunday at 11:30.
