Krejcikova still can’t find her lost form! Will she make it in Prague?
After a great year in 2021, when Barbora Krejcikova won her first Grand Slam singles tournament and even played in the Tournament of Champions, there was a downturn. The tennis player from Ivančice lost her form and slowly started to fall down the rankings. Will she get a boost at the tournament in Prague?

For Barbora Krejcikova, the calendar year 2021 was fantastic from a tennis perspective. Apart from the French Open, she managed to dominate tournaments in Strasbourg and Prague. Her reward was participation in the Champions Tournament and finishing the year in fifth place in the WTA rankings.
The twenty-six-year-old started 2022 in similar style. In Sydney, she reached the final, where she lost to Paula Badosa after 3:6, 6:4 and 6:7 sets. Nevertheless, it was a successful tournament for her.
Krejcikova was also in good form at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. The tennis player from the Czech Republic managed to beat Ostapenko and Azarenka, but she was not able to beat Madison Keys in the quarterfinals.
After that came the results slump, in which the former world number two at the Dubai and Doha tournaments retired after just two matches. Moreover, an elbow injury came and Krejcikova had to take an enforced break.
She returned to the courts after three months at the French Open, where she defended last year’s triumph. In the first round, she ran into the home team’s Diane Parry. Although she won the opening set clearly 6::1, she then started to make a huge number of unforced errors and lost the remaining two sets 6::2 and 6::3.
It was a bit better at Wimbledon, but Krejcikova probably imagined a better result than the third round. Ajla Tomljanovic, a later quarter-finalist, was beyond her. The subsequent transition to clay was not ideal either, where she has a record of two wins and two losses in July.
If we look at the WTA rankings, we find her in 19th place. She is ranked 26th in the 2022 rankings and needs to improve her results if she wants to play in the Champions Tournament again. She might be able to do it next week at the tournament in Prague, where she will be one of the main stars.
