An ideal start to the match
The Moravian tennis player entered the eight-final match better. Krejčíková first defended her opening serve, which was very balanced. In the following game she played well on the return, thanks to an excellent lob she won the opening break of the match. She was able to confirm it with a clean game, so the chances of winning the first set were very solid.
Her excellent performance continued. With another clean game on her serve, she increased her lead to 4:2. In the following game she even won another break, the fate of the first set was 99% decided. Krejcikova closed the first set in the fastest possible way. She won it 6:2 and took a very promising lead.
Krejcikova’s dominance continues
Krejcikova was unstoppable in the next game. Right at the beginning of the second set, she scored another break and the progress to the quarterfinals was becoming more and more realistic. During a pause in the exchange of sides, Azarenka requested medical attention, her problems were linked to pain in her neck.
The longer pause did not affect the excellent performance of the Moravian tennis player. Krejčíková faced a break point on her serve, but managed to hold on to this important moment and increase her lead to 2: 0.
Azarenka, however, proved to be a great fighter, winning two games in a row to get back into the match. Her hopes were short-lived, however, as she lost her serve again in the next game. After this turning point, the match got underway very quickly.
Krejčíková increased her lead to 4::2 with another clean game, and her victory was very realistic.
Krejcikova handled this moment very well, after winning 6::2, 6::2 she advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Who will she face in the quarterfinals?
A great performance by Krejcikova, a well-deserved progression. Valuable win against a great champion who also played very well here. It was one of the best performances from the Moravian tennis player in this tournament. She played aggressively enough, at the same time she didn’t make too many unnecessary mistakes and managed to outplay her opponent in the exchanges.
A great performance that can give her a very positive boost in the later stages of the tournament. By reaching the quarterfinals, Krejcikova improved her tournament best, her best result so far was the eighth round. Her quarter-final opponent will be the American Keys, so there are definitely still chances to advance further.
