Barbora Krejcikova started the year 2021 at 65th place in the WTA rankings. However, at the end of a fantastic season, in which she won the French Open, she climbed to third place and became the Czech number one, at least for a while. But that will change on Monday.
A lot has been written about the great performance of Barbora Krejcikova this year. Apart from her triumph at the French Open, the Brno native also won tournaments in Strasbourg and Prague.
She also recorded great results in doubles together with her partner Katerina Siniakova. The duo from the Czech Republic dominated the top of the clay court season (French Open), to which they also added victories in Madrid and Melbourne. We must not forget the gold medal from the Olympic Games in Tokyo or the triumph at the Champions Tournament.
But back to singles. Here Krejcikova had a breakthrough year, which brought her to the top of the world and placed her alongside Barty, Muguruza, Sabalenka and Kontaveit. Among the best that women’s tennis has to offer at the moment.
1. on November 2021, Krejcikova moved up to third in the WTA rankings, improving her career high. At least for a while, she became the Czech number one, as she left behind Pliskova, Kvitova and Muchova.
The reward for the former world number one in doubles was participation in the Tournament of Champions in Guadalajara, Mexico. In Group B, however, Krejcikova lost to Kontaveit, Muguruza and Pliskova and finished in last place.
However, we must point out that fatigue had a big impact on her. Because of that, she ended an otherwise successful season with a series of six losses. In Monday’s edition of the rankings, she will drop to fifth place, leaving Karolina Pliskova, among others, ahead of her.
Although she will lose the Czech number one position, she can be satisfied with her results. It will be very important for her to rest now and build on her performance in the coming year.
