The Czech Republic was represented in four matches during the third day of the Australian Open. Two matches were very successful, the other two unfortunately not. How did our tennis players do at the first Grand Slam of the season?
The first three days of the Australian Open have not offered any major surprises so far. Not even in the matches with the participation of tennis players from the Czech Republic.
Unfortunately, even Tereza Martincova (47th in the WTA ranking) did not provide any surprises, as she could not keep up with Camila Giorgiova (33rd) and lost in two sets in one hour and 39 minutes.
Giorgiová made 11 double faults, Martincová only 2. Her opponent made many times more unforced errors (45 to 18), but unfortunately Martincová could not take advantage of them.
Jiri Vesely, who was not even successful in doubles, is also saying goodbye to the Australian Open this year. He and his teammate Yoshihito Nishioka fell in two sets 6::3 and 6::2 and after less than an hour the match was over. They were defeated by the pair of Granollers, Zeballos.
The women’s doubles team of Marie Bouzkova, Lucie Hradecka was much more successful. Within an hour and 16 minutes the Czech tennis players defeated Gorgodze and Baraova in two sets 6::3 and 6::4.
Barbora Krejčíková (4th) can also be happy about the progress, she defeated Xiya Wang (139th) in two sets. The Moravian tennis player didn’t give her ranked opponent a chance and won 6: 2, 6: 3.
In the next round, Krejcikova will play Jelena Ostapenko, who is ranked 27th in the WTA rankings.
