Krejcikova fends off 5 set points and advances to the semifinals of Rolland Garros!

The winning ride of Barbora Krejcikova continues. In the quarter-finals she had to face the talented Gauff. The Czech showed strong nerves and tremendous fight in the match. She fought off 5 set points in the 1st set and finally managed to win it in the tiebreak. In the 2nd set she didn’t let go of her promising lead and after winning 7-6 6-3 she advanced to the semifinals.

The 17-year-old American entered the match with a better start. She got out to a quick 3-0 lead and started really well. But Krejcikova fought back. She stopped making so many errors, improved her serve and managed to level the set at 3-3.

After that, Gauff again pulled the long end. She saved her tight game on serve and then took the Czech’s serve. At 5-3, she served for the set. The tournament’s runner-up even fought off a set point, but Krejcikova fought it off and then broke back to take the first set. With a clean game, she managed to level the match at 5-5 and the players were in for a nerve-wracking finish.

At 6-5, Gauff again fought off set points. However, the Czech fought them off again and the winner of the first set was decided in a shortened game. In the tiebreak it was a big break. Chances for both players were spilling from one side to the other.

The American was more fortunate and had 2 more set points at 6-4. However, Krejcikova showed incredible psyche and managed to fight them off with excellent winners. She managed to finish off her opponent and won the important opening set in a tiebreak 8-6.

The opening set was crucial for the match. In the second set it was not such a struggle. Krejcikova was playing in a relaxed way, Gauff was on the other hand very mentally down and made one mistake after another. Thanks to that, the Czech took a quick 5-0 lead and it was practically over.

The young American still managed to correct the score to 3-5 and make the match slightly more dramatic. But that was all. Krejcikova finished the match for the second time and completed a great triumph. She defeated Gauff 7-6 6-3 and advanced to the semifinals of Rolland Garros.

Anyway, it was a great Grand Slam for Gauff as well. For the first time in her career, she reached the quarterfinals. Her time will come. Krejcikova will face the better of Swiatek-Sakkari in the semifinals.
