The Roland Garros champion faced the world No. 2 in the quarterfinals. The Belarusian tennis player won 6::1, 6::4 and confirmed her role as the favourite. Sabalenka will play Fernandez for the final.
In the quarter-finals of the US Open, the Moravian hope tried to surprise the big title aspirant. However, Krejcikova was tired from the demanding schedule, which affected her game. The Brno native did not put in an ideal performance and Sabalenka clearly outplayed her.
The first set was clearly in Sabalenka’s control. The Belarusian served well, played aggressively and hardly made any errors. She took a quick lead, while a weakened Krejcikova could not get into an ideal rhythm. The Moravian tennis player did not hold a single serve in the first set and Belarus dominated the opening set 6:1.
The second set was more even, Krejcikova was able to resist Sabalenka much better in the 2nd set. However, she lost her serve again right at the start, which was crucial. Krejcikova tried to do something else with the match and did not sell her skin cheaply. Sabalenka did not let go of her promising lead and brought the match to a winning end.
After winning 6::1 and 6::4, she advances to the semifinals of the US Open. She will face Canadian Fernandez, the big surprise of the tournament, in the final. At Wimbledon, Sabalenka narrowly missed out and reached the semi-finals. Will she break through the final gates in New York and play for the title?
Krejcikova ends up in the quarter-finals, the last grand slam of the season can be evaluated very positively. It’s her first time at the US Open, a top 8 finish is a very solid result.
She has already moved up to 7th in the rankings, where she will probably stay after the tournament. She was eliminated by Sabalenka, who can easily win the whole tournament. Krejcikova definitely did not disappoint at the US Open and confirmed that she is now one of the best players in the world.
