The second Grand Slam of this season is over and if we take away the junior categories, our tennis players did not shine too much. Almost the biggest drop in the rankings was recorded by Barbora Krejcikova, until recently the world number two. How do the rankings look?
The second Grand Slam of this season is over and if we take away the junior categories, our tennis players did not shine too much. Almost the biggest drop in the rankings was recorded by Barbora Krejcikova, until recently the world number two. How do the rankings look?
Roland Garros is over and the WTA has already updated its rankings. The world number one position in singles is of course held by the sovereign Iga Swiatek, who is virtually unstoppable this year, having lost only three matches.
Barbora Krejcikova was the world number two before the Paris tournament, but she was returning from a long injury and dropped out in the first round. This was combined with her absence and it was clearly reflected in the rankings.
The Moravian tennis player dropped twelve places after her unsuccessful title defence at the French Open, so she dropped out of the top ten and is now 14th. Krejčíková subsequently contracted coronavirus and could not even defend the doubles title she won last year against Katerina Siniakova.
Siniakova had to say goodbye to her position as the world number one in doubles, dropping to third place. Krejcikova dropped from third to eighth in the doubles.
As far as women’s singles is concerned, Karolína Plíšková, Petra Kvitová and Marie Bouzkova have moved up in the rankings.
Pliskova was in the eighth position, but now she has improved and holds the seventh place. Kvitova improved three places and is 31st, while Bouzkova rose five places and is 64th.
On the other hand, Markéta Vondroušová (from 35th to 49th), Tereza Martincová (from 54th to 60th) and Kateřina Siniaková (from 56th to 65th) have dropped, while Karolína Muchová remains unchanged and is still the 81st player in the rankings.
