In the Estonian capital, the native of Ivančice is doing extremely well. She hasn’t lost a set so far, and even the well-playing Beatriz Haddad Maio hasn’t taken a set off her.
Since the end of February, Krejcikova has been troubled by an elbow injury and has concentrated more on doubles, in which she managed to dominate three Grand Slams together with Katerina Siniakova.
The winner of last year’s French Open wanted to build on her two previous wins over Alia Tomljanic and Marta Kostyuk. In the first set, she allowed the Brazilian player only two fifties on her own serve, completely dominated and after two breaks dominated the first set – 6::3.
In the second set, the former world number two had it a bit more difficult. In the fifth game the Brazilian’s first break came, but Krejcikova managed to react in the next game and on Maiova’s subsequent serve she ended the match on serve – 6::4.
Krejčíková managed to extend her winning streak in singles for the third time in the season, beating the top 15 seed in two sets in an hour and a half. In the next round she will fight for her first career indoor final.
But she’s not going to have an easy job. Her opponent will be the well-known Swiss Belinda Bencic.
She was the one who defeated Krejcikova in the Olympic final in Tokyo last year and has a positive career record of 2:0 with the Czech player. The world number 14 defeated Donna Vekic in two sets in the quarterfinals – 6: 4, 6: 1.
The semi-final match at the tournament in Tallinn is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:00.
