Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova managed to turn the tide in the women’s doubles final and beat the home duo of Caty McNally and Taylor Townsend. The title at the prestigious New York event capped their joint career grand slam.
At the same time, they reached other milestones. They are the first Czech women in their career to boast the so-called Golden Slam, which consists of triumphs at all “Big Four tournaments” and a gold medal from the Olympic Games.
And since Krejcikova and Siniakova have already won the Tournament of Champions, they are also fresh holders of the career Super Slam. What are all the achievements that the twenty-six-year-old tennis players, who have also won junior Grand Slams, can boast of?
They won their first Grand Slam trophies in 2018
Their first valuable senior results include doubles titles from ITF events. In 2013 they dominated the clay tournament in Hechingen, Germany, and the following season they triumphed on the same surface in Maribor, Slovenia.
The Czech duo’s big breakthrough in tennis came in 2018, winning their first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros and then adding Wimbledon to their collection. Moreover, they were members of the team that won the 11th Fed Cup championship for our country.
In 2019, Krejcikova and Siniakova conquered doubles at the WTA tournaments in Toronto, Canada and Linz, Austria. At the start of the coronavirus-marred 2020 season, before the pandemic broke out, they dominated the event in Shenzhen, China.
In the last two seasons, they have not only celebrated at the Big Four tournaments
The year 2021 became unforgettable for the Czech pair. Krejcikova, who was in the singles form of her life last year, and Siniakova lifted another major trophy above their heads. They won titles at the Gippsland Trophy in Melbourne and on the clay in Madrid. Then they added a second win at the French Open.
One of the highlights of last season was the Tokyo Olympics, where they hung a gold medal around their necks. They also dominated the Champions Tournament for the first time. At the end of the year, as in 2018, they were named the best doubles pair on the WTA circuit.
This year they won at the Australian Open, at Wimbledon and most recently therefore at the US Open. And if Krejcikova had not tested positive for covid-19 at Roland Garros, the Ivancic native could have fought for the trophy with her Hradec Kralove teammate on the Paris courts.
They also have singles successes to their credit
Both players have also won trophies in singles tournaments, in which Kateřina Siniaková had previously been more successful. In the WTA events, she won in 2017 in Shenzhen and then in Bastad, Sweden.
Last year was the most successful singles season for Barbora Krejcikova. She was most visible as the champion of the French Open, she also won titles in Strasbourg and Prague. In February this year, she climbed up to the second place in the world rankings, which she then started to drop due to injuries and early lapses. In the past, she has captured the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open three times.
