Friday’s Australian Open featured three Czech matches, but only Barbora Krejcikova is through to the next round. She lost the first set, but then turned the match around and will face Victoria Azarenka.
Barbora Krejčíková, the fourth seeded tennis player in the WTA rankings, managed a duel with the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, who, however, did not give up easily.
Ostapenko won the first set 6::2 and the Czech tennis player was about to be eliminated, but Krejčíková worked hard and won the next two sets 6::4.
Krejcikova is now through to the eighth round where she will play Viktoria Azarenka, thirty-two years old, who according to the bookmakers is the favourite in this match.
The other two Czech matches did not end in qualification. The mixed doubles match between Kateřina Siniaková and Tomáš Macháč fell in the last set, but the Kichenoková/Gonzalez pair was successful.
The pair of Tereza Martincová and Markéta Vondroušová also came up next, they won the first set, but after that they were no match for their opponents Danilinaová and Maiová.
The number of Czech representatives is getting smaller every day. On Saturday, however, we have a few irons in the fire, namely Vondrousova in singles, Bouzkova and Hradecka in doubles, Krejcikova and Siniakova and Hradecka and Escobar in mixed doubles.
