Goalkeeper Matěj Kovář is one of the few Czechs who have the opportunity to train with one of the best footballers in history, Cristiano Ronaldo. “You’re always fishing for it out of the goal,” says Kovář.
the 21-year-old has been playing for Manchester United since January 2018. He played for the Red Devils’ reserve team, the under-23s, and after a loan spell at Swindon in the English third division, he is back playing for United’s B-team.
He is also the number one of the Czech national team, where he has played three matches in the current Euro qualification and kept a clean sheet each time. With nine points and a 6:0 record, the Lions are at the top of the table.
In addition, Kovář is being cleaved at training by the most competent person. He catches Cristiano Ronaldo’s cannons at the training sessions of the team.
“On the one hand it’s nice, but he’s one of the best players in the world and most of his shots end up in the net. You’re always catching it out of the net, it’s unpleasant sometimes. It’s an incredible thing to be in a team with Ronaldo. A huge school. I wish I could spend as much time with him as possible to gain experience from him,” said Kovář in an interview with Deník Sport.
Manchester United fans believe that with Cristiano Ronaldo, the team will finally start to rise again and win valuable trophies. But what is the Portuguese like in private?
“A great and good person. He doesn’t turn anyone away, he’s willing to give advice to everyone. I have only positive impressions of him. Ronaldo’s influence in the cabinet is huge and everyone wants to learn something from him,” says the native of Uherské Hradiště.
