Matěj Kovář is no longer a Manchester United player, he has transferred to Bayer Leverkusen. Ondřej Mastný left Old Trafford for Jihlava, but still the Czech player sat on the bench of the famous team in the second round of the Premier League.
Matěj Kovar is no longer a Manchester United player, he has transferred to Bayer Leverkusen. Ondřej Mastný left Old Trafford for Jihlava, but still the Czech player sat on the bench of the famous team in the second round of the Premier League.
In the second round United visited London, where they faced rival Tottenham Hotspur. And they lost the match 0:2, they cannot be satisfied with the performance.
However, an attentive Czech viewer might have noticed that there is one Czech footballer sitting on the Red Devils bench. Goalkeepers Kovář and Mastný were not, they are no longer in the squad, both of them have new jobs.
So who was it? Another goalkeeper, Radek Vitek, a 19-year-old youngster from Sigma Olomouc in Haná, otherwise a member of the Manchester United U21 team.
André Onana, the 27-year-old Cameroonian replaced long-time mainstay David de Gea, who left as a free agent, in the Manchester United goal.
Along with Vitek on the substitutes’ bench sat another goalkeeper, 26-year-old Dean Henderson, who went on loan to Nottingham Forrest last season to gain match practice.
Vitek was thus filling the role of goalkeeper number three. He won’t just get into the goal of a traditional English team, but sitting on the bench with Eriksen, Sancho or Martial must be an experience too.
Vitek’s contract at Manchester United expires next year and he has not yet signed a new deal. However, the Red Devils’ management is keen on a contract extension.
The fact that Vitek has been trusted as the third goalkeeper should be an indication from United that they trust him for the future and want to keep him in their team. Will the Czech youngster be on the bench in the next game?
