Koubek after Gzira: If I were immodest, I would say we should have scored one more goal. Maybe we had one chance to score that many goals

Viktoria Plzeň is on a winning streak. After a bad start, they beat Dritu, then overcame Baník in the league and now they beat Gzira. Coach Miroslav Koubek did not hide his satisfaction and evaluated the match at the press conference.

The start of the season was not ideal for Viktoria Plzeň, but now it seems to have got back on track. After two wins at home they hosted Malta’s Gzira and finally got a shot.

The first goal was scored in the 10th minute by Pavel Bucha. Rafiu Durosinmi followed his goal 13 minutes later and the Victorians immediately breathed better.

Pavel Šulc also scored in the 73rd minute and Jan Kopic adjusted the score to 4:0. Viktoria will thus take a comfortable lead into the rematch, with few doubting their progress.

“If I were immodest, I would say that we should have scored one more goal. There were maybe one goal too many chances. In football, it’s not that everything is contested. I appreciate the fact that we scored four goals and had more chances. It means that we outplayed the opponent and were effective enough in creating chances,” said coach Miroslav Koubek at the press conference.

The coach gave Pavel Šulc, who had been sitting on the bench until then and was even absent against Hradec Králové, a chance for the second time in a row. The young midfielder repaid his trust and showed that he deserves to play more regularly.

“Pavel Šulc is a football type, he puts in a technical superstructure. We know he’s not a cannonballer, but he performed the tasks he was supposed to perform in terms of creativity at the number eight spot along with Pavel Bucha well. He’s strong on the ball, maybe sometimes he overplays some situations because he wants to finish, but he brought a big refreshment to the match,” Koubek added.

Viktoria can now concentrate on Sunday’s game in České Budějovice, who have not scored yet and will be looking to reverse that at home. Will we see a few changes in the line-up?

“It will be an extremely difficult match in terms of our schedule. We have more losses and injuries. We will think about it, draw some conclusions and try to build the freshest line-up possible,” the experienced coach concluded.
